Quiet Riot Line Up Sheet

With the passing of Frankie Banali, I've decided to post my line ups sheet on Quiet Riot.

When it comes to Quiet Riot's line ups, there are a slew of them. There's probably a few missing here. In the Quiet Riot documentary Well Now You're Here There's No Way Back, there is a fairly amusing scene in which Frankie gives the complete line up history of Quiet Riot. That scene is the basis for most of this sheet, although I don't think Frankie mentioned every line up.  So along with that, I've also based this off years of research, Behind the Music and Wikipedia. So here's my best attempt at making a line up sheet for these guys.

Quiet Riot I (1975-1978)

Kevin DuBrow- vocals
Randy Rhoads- guitar
Kelly Garni- bass
Drew Forsyth- drums

Albums
Quiet Riot (1978)
Quiet Riot II (1979)

Notes: Quiet Riot is originally formed by Randy Rhoads and Kelly Garni. The two met in school during 9th grade. The two became friends and formed what would become Quiet Riot, recruiting singer Kevin DuBrow and drummer Drew Forsyth. The band get a record deal with CBS Records in Japan- which is where the first two Quiet Riot albums are released. The line up ends after Kelly is fired for allegedly firing a gun during one rehearsal.

Quiet Riot II (1978-1979)
Kevin DuBrow- vocals
Randy Rhoads- guitar
Rudy Sarzo- bass
Drew Forsyth- drums

Notes: Bassist Rudy Sarzo replaces original bassist Kelly Garni. During this time, the band’s second album was released- with Rudy on the cover, despite not playing on it. The band tried desperately to get a record deal in the US but sooner or later, Randy decided to leave the band after getting the job to join Ozzy Osbourne’s solo band.

Quiet Riot III (1979-1980)
Kevin DuBrow- vocals
Greg Leon- guitar
Rudy Sarzo- bass
Drew Forsyth- drums

Note: The band supposedly continued without Randy for a little longer. By 1980, Quiet Riot were done.

Band split (1980-1982)

Kevin DuBrow continues as DuBrow with a revolving door of musicians. Randy joins Ozzy Osbourne’s solo band in 1980, appearing on Ozzy’s first two albums- Blizzard of Oz and Diary of a Madman. When Ozzy is looking to replace his bassist and drummer, Randy suggests former band mate Rudy Sarzo- who ends up getting the job.

DuBrow (1980)
Kevin DuBrow- vocals
Bob Stephan - guitar
Gary Van Dyke- bass
Skip Gillett - drums

DuBrow (1980-1982)
Kevin DuBrow- vocals
Bob Stephan - guitar
Gary Van Dyke- bass
Frankie Banali – drums

DuBrow (1982)
Kevin DuBrow- vocals
Carlos Cavazo - guitar
Gary Van Dyke- bass
Frankie Banali – drums

Notes: The band goes back to using the Quiet Riot name. According to Rudy Sarzo’s autobiography, Randy had given Kevin his blessing prior to Randy’s death.

On March 19, 1982- Randy Rhoads dies in a jet plane accident during a pit stop on the tour in support of Diary of a Madman. Despite Randy’s death, the tour resumes shortly afterwards- with future Night Ranger guitarist Brad Gillis filling in for Randy.

Quiet Riot IV (1982-1983)
Kevin DuBrow- vocals
Carlos Cavazo- guitar
Chuck Wright- bass
Frankie Banali- drums

Notes: Out of the ashes of DuBrow, a new version of Quiet Riot is formed. Kevin had become friends with drummer Frankie Banali sometime in the early 1980s. Banali would end up joining the DuBrow band in 1980. Guitarist Carlos Cavazo, originally from a band called Snow, joined two years later. This line up are signed to Pasha Records in 1982 and begin recording Metal Health. The title track and “Don’t Want to Let You Go” are completed before Wright leaves the group.

Quiet Riot V (1983-1985)

Kevin DuBrow- vocals
Carlos Cavazo- guitar
Rudy Sarzo- bass
Frankie Banali- drums

Albums
Metal Health (1983)
Condition Critical (1984)

Notes: After fulfilling the tour with Ozzy Osbourne, Rudy Sarzo decided to rejoin Quiet Riot. From what has been written, Rudy felt comfortable in rejoining the group after being on tour when Randy died. With Rudy back in the band, the classic lineup is set in place. Metal Health is released in March 1983. By the end of the year, the album goes to #1 in the Billboard charts- becoming the first metal album of its kind to do so. The album’s success led to their peers getting signed to major record labels. Hit singles also come out of the title track and a cover of Slade’s “Cum On Feel the Noize.” The follow up, Condition Critical, sells fairly well. Critically, it’s panned by critics. People are especially critical of the band’s decision to cover another Slade hit “Mama Weer All Crazee Now.” Despite this, the band are able to tour. The line up ends after Rudy leaves the band.

Quiet Riot IVa (1985-1986)
Kevin DuBrow- vocals
Carlos Cavazo- guitar
Chuck Wright- bass
Frankie Banali- drums

Albums
QR III (1986)

Notes: Chuck Wright returns to the group in 1985. The following year, the band releases QRIII. Unlike the two albums before it, QRIII is not a big seller and the tour in support of the album is met with similar results. During this time, there are tensions within the band- specifically between Kevin and Frankie. After the tour, Kevin is fired from his own band while Chuck leaves again.

Quiet Riot VI (1986-1987)
Paul Shortino- vocals
Carlos Cavazo- guitar
Rudy Sarzo- bass
Frankie Banali- drums

Note: Frankie and Carlos decide to continue despite not having anymore original members. Future Rough Cutt singer Paul Shortino is hired as Kevin’s replacement. Rudy also returns to the band briefly before joining Whitesnake.

Quiet Riot VII (1987-1989)
Paul Shortino- vocals
Carlos Cavazo- guitar
Sean McNabb- bass
Frankie Banali- drums

Albums
QR (1988)

Notes: Bassist Sean McNabb replaces Rudy Sarzo. With this line up, QR is released. The album tanks in the charts and after a short tour, the band splits. Frankie joins W.A.S.P. shortly afterwards, just in time for the recording of the band’s next album The Headless Children.

 Band split (1989-1991)

Kevin DuBrow re-emerges as a radio DJ during the early 1990s. It’s also around this time that he is in a band called Heat with Quiet Riot bandmate Carlos Cavazo. The band ends up changing their name to Quiet Riot but it isn’t until a little later when Frankie Banali rejoins, renewing his friendship with Kevin.

Quiet Riot VIII (1991)
Kevin DuBrow- vocals
Carlos Cavazo- guitar
Kenny Hillery- bass
Pat Ashby- drums

Quiet Riot IX (1991-93)
Kevin DuBrow- vocals
Carlos Cavazo- guitar
Kenny Hillery- bass
Bobby Rondelli- drums

Quiet Riot X (1993-1994)
Kevin DuBrow- vocals
Carlos Cavazo- guitar
Kenny Hillery- bass
Frankie Banali- drums

Albums
Terrified (1993)

Notes: Bobby Rondelli plays on several songs for Terrified before Frankie rejoins. The line up ends after Kenny leaves in 1994. Sadly on June 5th, 1996, Kenny took his own life.

Quiet Riot IVb (1994-1995)
Kevin DuBrow- vocals
Carlos Cavazo- guitar
Chuck Wright- bass
Frankie Banali- drums

Albums
Down to the Bone (1995)

Quiet Riot XI (1995)
Kevin DuBrow- vocals
Carlos Cavazo- guitar
Bjorn Englen- bass
Frankie Banali- drums

Notes: Chuck Wright is replaced by Bjorn Englen for the Down to the Bone tour. Other sources claim that Bjorn was in the band from 1994 to 1995 prior to DTTB’s recording- playing a total of 22 shows with the band. He is fired shortly afterwards.

Quiet Riot XI (1995)
Kevin DuBrow- vocals
Carlos Cavazo- guitar
Ty Westerhoff- bass
Frankie Banali- drums

Notes: Ty Westerhoff died on May 17, 2005.

Quiet Riot XI (1995-1996)
Kevin DuBrow- vocals
Carlos Cavazo- guitar
Freddy Villano- bass
Frankie Banali- drums

Quiet Riot IVc (1996-1997)
Kevin DuBrow- vocals
Carlos Cavazo- guitar
Chuck Wright- bass
Frankie Banali- drums

Quiet Riot Va (1997-2003)
Kevin DuBrow- vocals
Carlos Cavazo- guitar
Rudy Sarzo- bass
Frankie Banali- drums

Albums
Alive and Well (1999)
Guilty Pleasures (2001)

Notes: The classic line-up reunites after Marilyn Manson invites the band to perform for one of his private after-shows. Around 1999 or 2000, Kevin is unable to make it to several gigs. For those shows, Paul Shortino filled in for him. This line ups end in 2003 when it’s determined that the band can no longer go on financially.

Band split (2003-2004)

Quiet Riot XII (2004-2005)
Kevin DuBrow- vocals
Alex Grossi- guitar
Chuck Wright- bass
Frankie Banali- drums

Notes: Just a year after their split, Quiet Riot reunited- with Kevin, Frankie, Chuck and Beautiful Creatures guitarist Alex Grossi in the band. From memory, I personally emailed Frankie around 2006- asking what happened to Alex and Chuck. According to him, Alex and Chuck left given their contracts had them in the band until the end of 2005. However, other sources claim that only Alex left.

Quiet Riot XIII (2005-2006)
Kevin DuBrow- vocals
Tracci Guns- guitar
(Chuck Wright- bass)
Frankie Banali- drums

Note: In late 2005, it’s announced that from LA Guns guitarist Tracci Guns has joined Quiet Riot. This only last for one month. While his contract supposedly ended the year prior, Chuck Wright might’ve been in the band during this time.

Quiet Riot XIV (early-mid 2006)
Kevin DuBrow- vocals
Neil Citrion- guitar
Tony Franklin- bass
Frankie Banali- drums

Albums
Rehab (2006)

Notes: This line up records Rehab, which isn’t released until October 2006.

Quiet Riot XV (2006)
Kevin DuBrow- vocals
Frankie Banali- drums

w/

Billy Morris- guitar
Steve Fister- guitar
Wayne Carver- bass
Sean McNabb- bass

Notes: Throughout 2006, Kevin and Frankie have a revolving door of musicians coming in and out for various gigs. Given the sporadic nature of the band at this point, I’ve put all of the members that were around during this time- including a returning Sean McNabb. After Rehab is released, Alex and Chuck were able to rejoin the band.

Quiet Riot XIIa (2006-2007)
Kevin DuBrow- vocals
Alex Grossi- guitar
Chuck Wright- bass
Frankie Banali- drums

Notes: On November 25, 2007, Kevin DuBrow was found dead in his house after missing for several days after Thanksgiving of that year. The coroner’s report suggests that DuBrow might have died days prior to the date he was found- although Frank Banali maintained that November 25, 2007 is the day that Kevin died. Weeks later, it was revealed that DuBrow had died from a cocaine overdose. In early 2008, Frankie Banali stated that Quiet Riot were no more.

 Band split (2008-2010)

Quiet Riot XVI (2010-2011)
Mark Huff- vocals
Alex Grossi- guitar
Chuck Wright- bass
Frankie Banali- drums

Note: Much to the surprise of many, Frankie decided to reform the band in 2010- along with announcing the production of a new documentary (Well Now You’re Here There’s No Way Back). The band hires singer Mark Huff, who was the singer in 5150- a tribute band to Sammy Hagar era Van Halen. As seen in the documentary, Huff often forgot the lyrics to songs such as “Cum on Feel the Noize.” In 2011, Huff is dismissed from Quiet Riot.

Quiet Riot XVII (2012)
Keith St. John- vocals
Alex Grossi- guitar
Chuck Wright- bass
Frankie Banali- drums

Note: Frankie reaches out to Montrose singer Keith St. John to fill in for a few gigs in 2012 that Frankie couldn’t bail out on. While not vocally in the same range as the band’s previous singers, Banali stated in the Quiet Riot documentary that St. John tried his best.

Quiet Riot XVIII (2012-2013)
Scott Vokun- vocals
Alex Grossi- guitar
Chuck Wright- bass
Frankie Banali- drums

Note: After receiving messages on Facebook from someone claiming he could do better than Mark Huff, singer Scott Vokun is auditioned on the day of Alex Grossi’s wedding. Scott is hired and stays with the band until 2013.

Quiet Riot XIX (2013-2016)
Jizzy Pearl- vocals
Alex Grossi- guitar
Chuck Wright- bass
Frankie Banali- drums

Albums
10 (2014)

Note: Former Love/Hate and Ratt singer Jizzy Pearl becomes the band’s next lead singer. He’s able to stick around for three years. This band releases 10, an album featuring six new studio tracks featuring Jizzy on vocals. On several of these songs, Rudy Sarzo and Tony Franklin make guest appearances. The last four or five songs are live tracks from 2007, being some of the last recorded performances of Kevin DuBrow.

Quiet Riot XX (2016-2017)
Seann Nicols- vocals
Alex Grossi- guitar
Chuck Wright- bass
Frankie Banali- drums

Albums
Road Rage (unreleased)

Note: Adler’s Appetite singer Seann Nicols is selected to be the band’s next singer. However after only several shows with the band, Nicols is dismissed as Banali’s first choice- American Idol Season 10 alum James Durbin- was now able to join Quiet Riot. Prior to this, Nicols had recorded a new album with the band. He later joins Bobby Blotzer’s version of Ratt.

Quiet Riot XXI (2017-2019)
James Durbin- vocals
Alex Grossi- guitar
Chuck Wright- bass
Frankie Banali- drums

Albums
Road Rage (2017)
Hollywood Cowboys (2019)

Note: With James Durbin in the band, the release date of Quiet Riot’s new album Road Rage is postponed given that it features Seann Nicols on vocals. The band headed back to the studio to re-record the entire album with Durbin on lead vocals. The album is finally released in the summer of 2017. As fate would have it, the same thing happens again in September 2019 when James Durbin announces his departure from the band.

Quiet Riot XIXa (2019-2020)
Jizzy Pearl- vocals
Alex Grossi- guitar
Chuck Wright- bass
Frankie Banali- drums

Note: Although Jizzy rejoins Quiet Riot, Hollywood Cowboys remains unchanged- with Durbin still on lead vocals. It is released in November 2019. Frankie Banali is diagnosed with stage 4 pancreatic cancer in April 2019 but did not publicly reveal this in October 2019. For the next few months, Frankie goes through 25 rounds of chemo. Sadly, Frankie Banali passes away on August 20, 2020.

Quiet Riot XXII (2020-present)
Jizzy Pearl- vocals
Alex Grossi- guitar
Chuck Wright- bass

Note: As of this writing, the future of Quiet Riot is TBD/TBA. From what Frankie has said prior to his passing, he claimed that he was banking in on a lot of material. With that, it's possible that there might be some posthumous releases coming out in the future.

UFO Line Up Sheet

In their five decades together, UK hard rockers have been through many line-up changes. Despite their many changes, singer Phil Mogg has always been in the band. In this year of 2019, the band have announced their farewell tour. Most of this line up sheet used a great web page that had almost every line-up listed- complete with the months. I cannot find this website at this time but once I do, I'll give it a mention here- if it hasn't been taken down. It really broke down EVERY line up in the band's history.

Thin Lizzy Line Up Sheet

Formed in Ireland five decades ago, Thin Lizzy were one of the country's first successful rock bands. The band went through several line up changes in their original run from 1969 to 1983. Only bassist/frontman Phil Lynott and drummer Brian Downey would stay in the band throughout all of those years- with the exception of Downey's break from the band in late 1978. The band would reunite several times after Lynott's death in 1986, eventual leading to the formation of a spin off band- Black Star Riders- in 2012.

Thin Lizzy I (December 1969-July 1970)
Phil Lynott- bass/vocals
Eric Bell- guitar
Brian Downey- drums
Eric Wrixon- keyboards

Notes: Thin Lizzy are formed in December 1969. The band takes their name from The Dandy comic strip character Tin Lizzie. After recording a song or two, Wrixon leaves the band.

Thin Lizzy II (July 1970-December 1973)
Phil Lynott- bass/vocals
Eric Bell- guitar
Brian Downey- drums

Albums
Thin Lizzy (1971)
Shades of a Blue Orphanage (1972)
Vagabonds of the Western World (1973)

Notes: With Wrixon out, Thin Lizzy decided to stay as a trio. This line-up records the band’s first three albums. In 1972, the band are able to crack the charts with their take on the traditional Irish folk tune “Whiskey in the Jar.” With the success of the single, the band’s popularity increased. The line up ends after Bell leaves the band, who is said to have left during a performance. From what’s been written, Bell thought the band were starting to take a commercial turn.
Between the release of Shades and Vagabonds, the band are asked by their management to record a Deep Purple tribute album. The band reluctantly did so under the name Funky Junction. With the addition of a singer and a keyboardist from another band called Elmer Fudd, Funky Junction Play a Tribute to Deep Purple was released in January 1973.

Thin Lizzy III (January-April 1974)
Phil Lynott- bass/vocals
Gary Moore- guitar
Brian Downey- drums

Notes: Filling in for Bell was guitarist Gary Moore, Phil’s friend from Irish rockers Skid Row. Moore stays for a few months, during which he records the guitar solo for “Still in Love With You”- which ends up on the Night Life album.

Thin Lizzy IV (May 1974)
Phil Lynott- bass/vocals
John DuCann- guitar
Andy Gee- guitar
Brian Downey- drums

Note: After Moore left, Lynott decided the band’s line up should be expanded. The band found two guitarists- Andy Gee and former Atomic Rooster frontman John DuCann. The band went on a brief tour in May 1974, after which the guitarists left.

Thin Lizzy V (June 1974-1976)
Phil Lynott- bass/vocals
Scott Gorham- guitar
Brian Robertson- guitar
Brian Downey- drums

Albums
Night Life (1974)
Fighting (1975)
Jailbreak (1976)
Johnny the Fox (1976)

Notes: Lynott and Downey try again in finding another two guitarists. The band finds Scottish born guitarist Brian Robertson first. Next, the band held auditions to find a second guitarist. Of the many auditioned, American guitarist Scott Gorham is given the job. Gorham had been in London, seeing if Supertramp were looking for a new guitarist. At that time, drummer Bob Siebenberg was Gorham’s brother in-law. When it turned out Supertramp weren’t looking for a guitarist, Gorham saw an ad for the Thin Lizzy auditions being held. With Gorham and Robertson in the band, the classic line up was in place.

Brian Robertson breaks his hand after defending a roadie in 1976. Gary Moore is brought back into the band for the rest of the 1976-77 tour. When it comes time for the band to record Bad Reputation, Robertson was not wanted back in the band.

Thin Lizzy VI (1976-1977)
Phil Lynott- bass/vocals
Scott Gorham- guitar
Gary Moore- guitar
Brian Downey- drums

Notes: Moore filled in for Robertson during the 1976-77 tour.

Thin Lizzy VII (-1977)
Phil Lynott- bass/vocals
Scott Gorham- guitar
Brian Downey- drums

Notes: The line-up during the Bad Reputation recording sessions.

Phil Lynott- bass/vocals
Scott Gorham- guitar
Brian Robertson- guitar
Brian Downey- drums

Notes: As the sessions for Bad Reputation came to an end, Robertson was invited back. The line-up ended in July 1978 when Robertson left for good.

Thin Lizzy VIa (August 1978-Late 1978)
Phil Lynott- bass/vocals
Scott Gorham- guitar
Gary Moore- guitar
Brian Downey- drums

Albums
Black Rose (1979)

Notes: In 1978, Gary Moore is invited to join Thin Lizzy again. Unlike previous times, Moore is asked to stay long term. Moore records only one album with the band, 1979’s Black Rose.

Thin Lizzy VIII (Late 1978)
Phil Lynott- bass/vocals
Scott Gorham- guitar
Gary Moore- guitar

Thin Lizzy VIb (Late 1978-July 1979)
Phil Lynott- bass/vocals
Scott Gorham- guitar
Gary Moore- guitar
Brian Downey- drums

Notes: During the Black Rose tour, Moore left the band. Various sources claim different reasons why he left. Whatever the case is, Moore was no longer in Lizzy by 1979.

Thin Lizzy IX (July-August 1979)
Phil Lynott- bass/vocals
Scott Gorham- guitar
Midge Ure- guitar

Notes: Lynott asks friend and musician Midge Ure to take over for Moore. Ure, who proclaims himself as the worst guitarist Lizzy ever had, decided to join.

Notes: Lynott replaces Ure with 17 year old keyboardist Darren Wharton. Wharton is not officially credited as a member of Thin Lizzy for Chinatown but I’ll include him anyway- although he probably didn’t tour with the band at first. The line-up ends in 1982 when White leaves the band.

Thin Lizzy XIII (September 1982-September 1983)
Phil Lynott- bass/vocals
Scott Gorham- guitar
John Sykes- guitar
Brian Downey- drums
Darren Wharton- keyboards

Albums
Thunder and Lightning (1983)
Life Live (1983)

Notes: Former Tyger of Pan Tang guitarist John Sykes is chosen as White’s replacement. At the same time, the band’s popularity is declining and the money isn’t coming in. The band has no choice but to announce their farewell tour- with the release of their last studio album Thunder and Lightning. At this point, both Lynott and Gorham were deep into drug addictions- especially Lynott. By September 1983, the band splits.

Band splits in 1983

In late 1985, it is said that there were meetings and discussion held for a potential Lizzy reunion with Lynott, Gorham, Sykes and Downey. This came to an end due to Lynott’s drug addiction.

Phil Lynott dies on January 4, 1986

In 2012, it’s announced that the band will enter the studio to record a brand new studio album. During the recording of the album, it began to hit the band that they were recording a Thin Lizzy album without Phil Lynott. Lynott’s widow had an issue with this too, asking for the band to not record under the Lizzy name. In late 2012, the band announces that they will continue as Black Star Riders with Warwick, Gorham, Johnson, Mendoza and Jimmy DeGrasso.

(see Black Star Riders)

The band also announces that it will use the Thin Lizzy name on special occasions. The first of these special occasions is in 2016, which marked the 40th of Jailbreak.
